Features

Although it was originally built for ski patrollers, the Patrol Pack has become our most versatile large day pack. Which is handy, because it felt a bit rude keeping it just for the pros.

Somewhere in the sweet spot between comfort, capacity and common sense, the Patrol found its people. Ski patrollers, hunters, photographers, climbers, backcountry skiers, splitboarders and lightweight bushwalkers all seem to get along with it. Funny that. A good pack that carries awkward gear properly tends to be useful in more than one place.

From the Snowies to Tassie, the Vic High Country and any cold, steep bit of Australia where you need more than a sandwich and blind optimism, the Patrol is built to haul the odd shaped stuff without carrying on about it.

The padded C Lam harness and waist belt keep things comfortable for long days under load. The front shovel pocket gives fast access when you actually need your shovel, and in summer it doubles nicely for a jacket, snacks or whatever else you want close to hand.

Ice axe loops are there, obviously. Side pockets take shovel handles or water bottles, while internal pockets handle a hydration bladder or avalanche probes. Ski tail straps on the lower sides, paired with a side release buckle on the upper compression strap, make ski carry simple. It is also compatible with our DB Boardstraps, sold separately, for hauling a snowboard.

The boxy base shape is built for the weird loads ski patrollers tend to carry, which also makes it bloody useful for everyone else. Tools, camera gear, alpine kit, spare layers, lunch, first aid, or the mysterious heavy thing your mate forgot to mention until the car park.

Care
  • Our pack fabrics have an internal waterproof coating and an external DWR coating. To help these last as long as possible, we do not recommend machine washing.
  • Brush dirt off while the pack is still dry.
  • Hand wash in cold or warm water using mild detergent or pure soap, preferably something that’s nice to the earth.
  • Close zips before washing. They’ll last longer. You can also give them the odd silicone spray or light wax to keep them running smoothly.
  • Drip dry without creases.
  • If your Patrol Pack somehow takes a tumble off the rocks at the top of the field and makes most of the trip down without you, get it back to Cactus HQ. For a small fee, we’ll patch it up and make it functional again.
  • Still not sure? Give us a call or flick us an email.
